HOMECALL TO CLOSE

Homecall, the local Queen’s Award winning charity that offers home-visiting services to sight-impaired people throughout East Sussex, will be closing on 30th September 2008. Approximately 350 people, average around 80 years of age, will lose the service, which since 1985 has provided home volunteers to help with such things as correspondence, going for a walk, attending appointments and social events, keeping an eye on their health and welfare and many other individual matters.

Homecall Chair, Audrey Paul said “The Homecall Trustees are devastated to have to make this decision. We have worked very hard to find sufficient funding, but have not succeeded in raising enough money to keep the service running in the long term. Over the past two years we have been extremely well supported through many donations, small grants and a legacy and are extremely grateful that this has helped us to continue so far. The last thing we want is for the service to close and if a substantial amount of funding becomes available before the end of September we will, of course review our plans.

The needs of our clients are of paramount importance and the Homecall staff will be advising them where they might find alternative help should they need it, although at present there is no equivalent home-visiting service.

If anyone thinks they might be able to save this valued service, for more information our website is www.homecall.uk.com , and our Director, Liz Wilkinson can be contacted on 01323 764597 or email homecalldirector@hotmail.com.”
